Dog Days
When I was 11 years old, in 1922, living in Toulon, Ill., we experienced dog days that I remember well to this day. My father told us that the expression had begun back when people believed that the hot August weather might make dogs get rabies. It was better to stay away from dogs when the weather was extra hot.
