Good Old Days

Our February Issue

Dear Friends of the Good Old Days,

Do you remember jotting down your daily happenings in one of those cheap, lined composition notebooks back in grade school? I do. I had an English teacher who required that we students put pencil to paper on a regular basis. We were to record our thoughts, our actions and events of the day, just to get used to writing. There was nothing earth-shattering between the pages of my notebook, trust me. In fact, I'm quite sure my hand-letterings about my pesky little sister, my mangy tomcat and my hatred for liver and onions was quite yawn-inducing for my teacher. But there was a method to her madness. That habit taught me to bring the written word into my everyday existence. It taught me to pause and reflect and capture my thoughts. It taught me to appreciate a good story. And it taught me the reward of sharing a good story too.
